Angels, I had heard that word before. The messengers of G-d. But grandpa never meant it that way. At least that’s what he said. He would tell me stories of Angels, coming down and taking humans for experiments. I would just sit there and listen, nod my head every once in a while. I live in a little town called Redleaf. No one gets in, and no one gets out, except for The Enlightened. They are a special group of people, chosen to help our little town, lead us in the right direction. My grandpa used to be in The Enlightened, but was removed when he started going on his Angels rants. He lives with us now. My life is simple, go to school come home. I don’t have any friends, mainly because of my grandpa. My dad too, he was taken away because he was caught spying on The Enlightened. The last thing I ever heard him say was,
“Find out the truth Sam! Our whole lives are a lie!”
That’s me, Sam Skelton. And I have seen things beyond believe, and its all because of that one word.
Angels.
Chapter 1
January 17, 2026
When I woke up, it was quieter than usual. I walked down the stairs, and into the little kitchen of my home. Mom was at the stove, scrambling some eggs. I realized why it was so quite. Grandpa wasn’t at the table, telling me and mom another story about the Angels. Just as I was about to say something, grandpa burst through the doorway, his eyes wild yelling,
“The Angels! There coming!”
Mom gave me a look and went over to calm him down. He looked at me with fear in his eyes and said,
“Sam, be careful, they are here!” I just did what I always do and nod. I finished my breakfast, kissed my mom on the cheek, and left for school.
School was just as boring as always, with no one to talk too. Walking back from school, something didn’t feel right. Good thing I looked up, because what I saw was impossible. Directly above me was what looked like a floating hexagon. It was much more then that. I heard a white noise, slowly getting louder and louder, and I realized it was coming from the ship, about ten seconds later, a ball of green light shot out from somewhere on the side of the ship, and blasted the house next to me. The house blew up, shrapnel flying everywhere. The explosion sent me flying. I hit a wall opposite the house that was just destroyed. I got up, a little dazed, and started to hear the white noise again. I ran away as fast as I could. I had just gone from another boring, lonely day at school, to this? Up ahead I could see my house, explosions going off all around me. All of a sudden everything stopped. The noise, the explosions, everything. I couldn’t find the ship anywhere. Then I saw it, over my house. Suddenly, the roof of my house blew off, and a large figure shot out with my mom and my grandpa in its arms. The humanoid figure landed on top of the ship, and opened a hatch and jumped inside. The ship turned around, and pointing at me was what looked like a large cannon, and then I heard the white noise. Suddenly, the hatch on the roof of the ship flew open, and my grandpa came out, screaming “Sam! Run towards the woods! They will help you! Go!” as soon as he finished those words, the figures hand shot out, grabbed my grandpa by the neck, and dragged him back in. Seeing the only two people I care about the most made me so angry. Adrenaline shot through my body, the white noise still getting louder. I took off as fast as I could towards the woods, but turned around for a split second, just to see my house destroyed. I kept on running, through the trees and brush. After about five minutes, I thought I was safe. I was wrong. I stopped to catch my breath, and started crying. What happened to my life? My dad got taken away, my grandpa went crazy, and as far as I know everyone in my town was murdered. And my mom, the person who has always been there for me. She was gone. Over my crying and my heavy breathing I heard a noise. The white noise. Before I realized what was happening, the cannon fired. The loud boom blasted through my ear drums, and the explosion sent me flying. I was soaring through the air, out into a clearing. The whole world was flying past me. Then gravity kicked in, and I started to fall. I closed my eyes, ready to feel the excruciating pain, but instead I felt myself land in a pair of arms. I opened my eyes to see a man with long white hair. He set me down. And again, I heard the white noise. He looked at me, pointed to a spherical machine, and shouted “Run!”
I took off like a rocket, running as fast as I could, towards the opening. I didn’t know what to except. When I got inside, it looked like a control room. The man bolted in after me. He pointed to one of the seats on the wall.
“Sit.” He commanded.
I looked around, still confused. “But I…”
“Sit!” he yelled. I sat down. He dashed over to a chair, with buttons and controls lying in front of it. He immediately pressed one to the far right. A purple mist spewed fr
